Since I have been writing about this awesome book that I’ve been reading, Reading Like a WriterI thought I’d depart some more writing tips I’ve learned. Francine Prose discusses so many things in her book: words, sentences, dialogue and even writing paragraphs. Most writers know that the beginning of chapters introduce a new element of the story and that chapters end with a teaser that leads to the next chapter, well, paragraphs can do the same thing. Even something as small as a paragraph can be a story on its own. Prose says that the beginning of the paragraph is like inhaling and by the time you get to the end you exhale.
If you think of this during your revision you can really make your paragraphs more interesting. They can be short stories within themselves.
