Scholastics Arts and Writing Competition (Poetry Submissions)

This one is for all you poets out there. If you are in the 7th to 12th grade and 13 years old and up this competition is for you. The Scholastics Arts and Writing Competition is a great way to get your writing out there and win a few prizes in the process!

The judges are looking for “Work that breaks from convention, blurs the boundaries between genres, and challenges notions of how a particular concept or emotion can be expressed.”

“Work that uses technique to advance an original perspective or a personal vision or voice, and shows skills being utilized to create something unique, powerful, and innovative.”

You can write in verse and write prose poetry, free verse, formal poetry, spoken word, and even song lyrics are included in the poetry section.

Each submission may consist of 1–5 poems, which will be judged as a collection. You may submit more than one collection but must register each separately. Each submission costs $5 but fee waivers may be available. 

Limits: 20–200 lines (total for the entire collection).

Prizes: Gold, silver and bronze keys or medals plus an exhibition of your work and tons of bragging rights.
